3D Printed AIY Case

So you've got your new DIY AI Kit with the MagPi and want a better case but don't have a 3D Printer? We can print one for you!

You will get the 3D Printed bottom and top along with a few accessories for assembly. Its simple to put together. Simply push your pi into place with all of the electronics already attached, put the microphone board in the lid and then add the button. Push the lid on top and you're ready to go!

Assembly Instructions

  • Take the lid off of the box
  • Ensure the speaker is already screwed into the terminals of the AIY HAT.
  • Push the HAT onto the Raspberry Pi and ensure the SD Card is not in the Pi
  • Push the HAT & Raspberry Pi combo into the bigger section with the terminals towards the back of the box.
  • Cut the enclosed sticky pad in half and put one onto each side of the top of the speaker on the metal.
  • Place the speaker into the box and push against plastic to fit it. Align so the circle of the speaker is in the middle.
  • Next slot the microphone board into the area as shown in the pictures. It should slot in and not rattle easily.
  • To put the button in unscrew the nut and put the spacer between the Button and the top of the lid and then secure it to the box.
  • Finally after connecting up the button and microphone board push the top of the lid onto the box. It should push into place with only a little bit of force.

To remove the lid you can either pull up on the button or using a small screwdriver in one of the two holes on the top can be used to help lift it out.

Case Design

We've designed the case similar to that of the cardboard version but with a few tweaks:

  • Honeycomb style speaker front
  • Plastic divider to keep Raspberry Pi & Speaker in place for a nice snug fit.
  • Lid pops on and off with a push fit style joint.

3D Printed Part Information

This item is 3D printed by us in 0.3mm Layer height. We find this quality works well for the case of this size to be able to give you a great price. Printed in PLA which provides a good strength for this project.

Slight minor defects are allowed in our QC process (Defect can only be seen close up or is on side of case which isn't on the outside). Any obvious defects are rejected.

This item is printed to order and we don't keep any stock so you can order it in the colour of your choice. Please allow 3-5 Working Days for printing.

When ordered we will add your order to our 3D Printer order queue spreadsheet at https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1VuF2ZnW6st76ZseqDG2F1uRlc2e2-nHm_uAwccYfTtA/edit?usp=sharing so you can see where your order is in our queue of prints.

Good solid case

Mine is green, with a red button. It stands out really well. Fairly easy to assemble the device. Shame speaker isn't quite in place, simple support needed perhaps? I would buy another if I had two of the AIY devices for sure.

    Solid enough box

Better than the Google AIY cardboard, but expect the limitations of 3D printing - texture lines and some glitches - so before assembly, do make sure there's no odd threads poking out. Speaker is a little tricky to mount with sticky pads.

      Nice little box!

As it says on the website, the AIY kit for the Pi is a bit let down by the cardboard box, and the Ryanteck 3D printed case is a better home for the project. I got the blue case which looks very nice and was easy to get the AIT kit fitted inside. I now have a project that I can show my friends that doesn't look like it was inspired by Blue Peter!

        What a piece of kit!

This is fifty times better that cardboard!. Pi fits perfectly, with an unmoving partition between Pi & Speaker. NO WIGGLE (insert card after fitting). This is wonderful. Just bought one at Raspberry Jam Norwich.
